Emergency Overview:
Strongly acidic corrosive material. Causes sensitization by skin contact. Exposure to gold compounds may damage kidney function and reduce blood cell count.
Primary Routes of Exposure:
Ingestion, inhalation, skin, eyes
Eye Contact:
Corrosive to the eyes.
Skin Contact:
Causes burning of the skin with redness, pain, itching, pimples, boils, hives and blisters.
Inhalation:
Forms hydrochloric acid in the presence of moisture. Inhalation of vapors will lead to burning of the respiratory tract.
Ingestion:
Causes burns to the gastrointestinal system. Gold compounds may lead to dermatitis, metallic taste, and convulsions.
Acute Health Effects:
Corrosive to skin, eyes and respiratory tract. Causes impairment of kidney and bone marrow function, abdominal cramps, vomiting, bloody diarrhea, weakness and convulsions.
Chronic Health Effects:
Prolonged exposure to gold compounds may lead to reduced red and white blood cell generation.

SECTION 4: First Aid Measures
Eye Exposure:
Immediately flush the eyes with copious amounts of water for at least 10-15 minutes. A victim may need assistance in keeping their eye lids open. Get immediate medical attention.
Skin Exposure:
Wash the affected area with water. Remove contaminated clothes if necessary. Seek medical assistance if irritation persists.
Inhalation:
Remove the victim to fresh air. Closely monitor the victim for signs of respiratory problems, such as difficulty in breathing, coughing, wheezing, or pain. In such cases seek immediate medical assistance.
Ingestion:
Seek medical attention immediately. Keep the victim calm. Give the victim water (only if conscious). Induce vomiting only if directed by medical personnel.
